Dammam Airports Company (DACO), operator of King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) in Dammam - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has decided to refurbish and upgrade to CAT III-B the West Runway (16R/34L, length 4,000 m.) after 25 years of operations. In addition, Egis will install and commission the NAVaids (navigation systems) necessary to accommodate CAT III-B operations in this runway development. The works include runway and taxiways condition survey and assessment, as well as the new ILS and update AGL from halogen to LED lights.

The contract includes project management consultancy (PMC) services of the West Runway Development (WRD) project, to design review, procurement and construction supervision works of an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor:

  • West Runway reconstruction (civil works, pavement and drainage, underground utilities)
  • Upgrade CAT III-B, new LEDs airfield ground lighting system (AGL), integrated with the new ILS (NAVAIDS) and A-SMGCS, as well as the existing MET system (AWOS)
  • Upgrade ILS CAT III-B: localizer (LOC) and glide slope (GS)
  • As part of the AGL, including airfield signage (guidance, location, information)
  • Test & commissioning of all Special Systems of the airfield.
