Introduction:

The Smart City is expected to comprise of multiple systems, all of which will be closely connected, work in harmony and reinforce the usefulness of the other, so as to innovate and take smarter decisions. Smart cities refer to a smart mechanism for city management and operation, which holds several characteristics involving sensing, measurement, perception, analysis, visualization, and self-controlling.



One of the best ways to do this is by powering the city with Geospatial technology. Geospatial technologies offer a potential of powering the smart city enterprise to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of data in a geographical context. By creating a platform that is geo-enabled, cities can collect, organize and disseminate location aware data from multiple disparate sources in conjunction with non-spatial data from other enterprise systems. It helps city to take decisions at a faster pace thus better services to citizens, towards accomplishing the key goals of being Competitive, Sustainable and Livable.

Objectives:

This training program introduces the application of geospatial technologies to smart cities. It presents essential concepts and skills needed to efficiently create a geo-enabled platform that can capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of data in a geographical context. Additionally, the course overviews the procedures to collect, organize, and disseminate location aware data from multiple sources in conjunction with non-spatial data from MIS and other enterprise systems.
