Introduction:

Stakeholder management is important for the success of projects and programs. The process of working and communicating effectively with stakeholder to appropriately engage them in the project is a challenging duty of the project manager and his team. This course covers this engagement process from the project idea through the project completion and discuss the tools and techniques to foster stakeholder support and minimize the resistance of stakeholders to change. You’ll learn how to identify key stakeholders and define their roles, establish how committed are they to the project, align and prioritize stakeholder requirements to business and organizational objectives, and gain ‘buy-in’. The course covers also cover communication techniques such as resolving conflict and managing expectations that can’t be met, as well as ongoing management of issues, maintaining commitment and status reporting.

Objectives:

After completing this course the attendees will be able to:

1. Understand stakeholder needs.

2. Understand how stakeholders impact your project.

3. Know how to deal with multiple stakeholders with divergent interests.

4. Understand how to manage stakeholder expectations, including quality and performance expectations.

5. Understand the need to communicate your strategy to the project team, the customer, and other project stakeholders.

6. Resolve conflict and competing priorities.

7. Manage project public relations and organizational politics.

8. Contain expectations through effective status reporting and progress meetings.

• Getting approval to proceed with the project.

Day 3:

Communications techniques

• Common communications barriers and “filters”.

• Dealing with organization politics.

• Managing external stakeholders such as suppliers, regulators and the public.

• Resolving conflict.

• Managing difficult stakeholders.

• Managing expectations that can’t be met.

Communication and Conflict Management Workshop:

• A phased workshop for applying communication and conflict management techniques.

Ongoing management of stakeholder expectations

• Selling the project.

• Maintaining the commitment.
