Introduction:

This course aims to identify the basics of design and planning of urban roads within the city and the cellular roads (outside or between cities). It includes clarifying the international standards for classification of roads and their degrees and the basis of the analysis of road capacity and traffic levels of traffic. It also analyzes the distances of vision on roads and intersections to ensure the safe design of roads and reduce accident rates. The course topics also show the practical and economical technical bases for selecting pathways and evaluating them from the technical, economic and environmental aspects. The study of the foundations of the horizontal planning of roads and the vertical planning of roads is one of the fundamentals of road design. The course also discusses how to design the elements of the cross-section of urban and cellular roads.

As intersections play an important role as an essential component of the road network, the course will focus on the principles and basics of surface intersections planning as well as the planning of industrial work at intersections (bridges and tunnels). The design of means of regulation and traffic control (traffic signs and road signs) is also studied on roads and intersections. The course also includes the definition of the foundations of the planning and design of squares and parking spaces and the implementation of applications and presentation of examples of projects implemented in this area. Course topics also include the advanced methods of structural design for paving and computer applications. It should be noted that the topics of the course include the identification of Arabic and international codes and standards and their application in all planning and design processes.
