Message from the CEO

Hopeful and Bullish

The unprecedented political turmoil in the Middle East is by and large casting its shadow on the economy. As a result, businesses across the region are relocating, restructuring and re-strategizing in an attempt to minimize the risks involved. Political risk is not new to us living in the Middle East and over 27 years of Projacs’ existence, we have witnessed similar situations at least twice, while continuously living in a state of instability for the past 64 years.

Naturally, we are optimists and we look at the overall scene with a positive outlook and high aspirations. We are confident that the economy will bounce back again soon irrespective of the new order that may evolve. Private projects might suffer on the short term but we have learnt from experience that the economy cannot be held hostage for so long and we will soon witness a quick turnaround.

Governments and people must work in tandem and corrective measures at all levels and in all sectors of the economy will be implemented. Such measures will be fueled not only by governments’ spending on infrastructural and strategic projects but also in way of reforms to the economy and the business conduct thus injecting confidence within  local business communities and international investors.

Spreading our wings over more than 18 cities in the Middle East, we continue to cherish and value our past and with another chapter of history in the making, we remain hopeful and bullish for a better future.

Middle Eastern construction industry looks at future trends with inaugural BIM conference

Abu Dhabi, December 14, 2011: At a time when building costs and project efficiencies are of paramount concern to the construction industry a consortium of industry professionals have combined their efforts to host the Middle East's inaugural Building Information Modelling (BIM) Conference, which opened today at the CERT Technology Park, Abu Dhabi.

The conference theme is Building Information Modelling - Vision, Strategy & Implementation and will explore the usage of BIM as a vital tool in construction projects where project managers and architects deploy 3D modeling of architectural, structural, mechanical, and other key building systems instead of traditional 2D drawings.

The two-day conference has been organized by the Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE) of Stanford University, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and Projacs International, in conjunction with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). It will investigate how BIM is capable of being utilized in the construction process as more than just a piece of software.

BIM covers geometry, spatial relationships, lighting analysis, geographic information, quantities and properties of building components. It can be used to showcase a building project's entire life cycle, including the process of construction and facility operation.

Conference organizers see the event as an excellent opportunity for engineers, consultants, contractors, architects, owners and operators of construction projects to learn more about this vital industry tool. It will see about 200 delegates from around the Middle East converge on Abu Dhabi to interact and network with fellow professionals while hearing about the latest BIM developments from international speakers, including those from USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Finland and the MENA region.

During the conference there will also be an opportunity for delegates to inspect a variety of exhibitions and be involved in interactive discussions and demonstrations. Participants will receive an attendance certificate from CIFE at Stanford University.Special guests to the conference will include CCC Chairman Said Khoury and H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor, Higher Colleges of Technology.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, said it was a pleasure for the HCT to be working closely with HCT Foundation member CCC and its other partners to present the conference.

Dr Kamali added that the conference theme of Building Information Modelling was of vital importance to maintaining a strong and vibrant construction industry in the UAE.-Ends-About the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT)Founded in 1988 with four colleges, The Higher Colleges of Technology has grown to be the largest of the higher educational institutions in the UAE, gaining a well-respected reputation for innovative learning.
